About this role
Applicants are invited for the role of Construction Director for a Renewable Energy EPC company. The role will be based out of New York, with frequent travel to nearby solar sites in New York, and to various sites across Canada, where established assets include wind energy projects.
At the beginning you will spend time and effort identifying business opportunities, as the expansion into Northeastern US is just beginning for this organization. You will be the subject matter expert (SME) for NY laws and regulations, applying your project experience to develop business, win projects and deliver builds from 2021 onwards.
Ideally you’ll have wind energy projects on your resume – but solar experience is definitely of interest. You must have an engineering background and at least 10+ years of supervisory experience in construction industry projects (heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation).

The Construction Director role is a starting point for Northeastern expansion of this established organization. The Construction Director will establish, recruit and lead the growth of this side of the business.
Day to day, your focus will be to coordinate the operational and financial aspects of construction projects in collaboration with the onsite manager. You will be the primary liaison with the client’s project management team. You will help identify potential leads and assists estimators with development of pricing proposals. You’ll also develop and enforce Best Practices and Quality Programs for process utilization, safety and risk management.
Project Services: Identifying client needs, collaborating on legal document preparation. Understanding costs and value, establishing budget and programming, preparing the Master Schedule. Verifying required permits and authorizations in compliance with all relevant regulations and laws. Managing bids and contracts: supervising and reviewing submissions for bids and tenders, negotiating and awarding contracts in consultation with client.
Project Coordination: Planning and recruiting the construction team in collaboration with VP, HR and Logistics Director. Executing work method planning, with close attention to costs and project accounting. Managing construction site meetings as required, ensuring safety is a priority at all times. Overseeing preparation of a detailed site wrap-up manual, delivered in a timely manner.
Project Completion: Completing all administrative financial follow ups: resolving costs, claims, authorizing accounts payable/receivable, authorizing sub-contractor and supplier payments. Maintaining relationships that deliver client satisfaction and that will lead to future business.

- Four-year construction or engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
- At least ten years of supervisory experience in a related construction industry (i.e. heavy civil, industrial, utilities, power generation).
- Knowledge of New York State Legislation and Practices is essential.
- Knowledge and experience in cost accounting, with exposure to construction regulations and rules.
- You will likely have a Professional Engineer qualification.
- Ideally you already have construction experience of onshore wind energy projects.
