Brunel has an exciting direct opportunity for a Network Security & Connectivity Engineer working for a leading supplier in mining and metals in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As the Network Security & Connectivity Engineer, you will provide guidance and direction to vendor managed services. You will ensure effective architecture, execution, and operation of network and telecommunications to support and secure business systems and processes. Other duties will include:

  • Enable, monitor, and manage connectivity services and related security operations for on-premise and Cloud services, maintaining these within the parameters of business-aligned reliability, integrity, and risk tolerances
  • Provide end-to-end expert guidance on how to manage Edge Device Connectivity, Firewall, IPS/IDS, VPN, Malware, BotNet, Web Filtering, cloud connectivity and B2B IPSec Connections, across IT infrastructure influencing priorities and decisions across the organization
  • Communicate the strategic vision and agenda for network, voice, and security for both perimeter and internal to IT Leadership ensuring alignment and support
  • Understand IT vision and translate this to security, remote sites, and secure connectivity both internal and external
  • Design and configure perimeter security (firewall, IPS/IDS, VPN, web filtering, malware, botnet), data center/pops, remote sites, and cloud connectivity to provide a high degree of performance, reliability and service availability for the business
  • Initiate, lead, and execute on IT activities related to security, remote sites, and secure connectivity both internal and external
  • Provide end-to-end expert leadership on how to effectively design, secure, integrate, grow, and maintain cost-effective security for remote sites and perimeter-based solutions
  • Technical analysis and performance tuning of hardware, software, networks, security, and logging
  • Use ITIL Service Request, Incident, Risk, Problem, and Change Management principles to optimize and reduce risks within IT network, voice, video, and collaboration in how it relates to security
  • Resolve 2nd & 3rd Level incidents escalated from IT Operations team in timely manner aligning to published IT SLA response times
  • Responsible for Data Center, POP, and Remote site security services



  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience; ITIL or vendor-related certifications is a plus
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting Security, WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice and Video collaboration environments
  • 3+ years' system administration experience consisting of defining, implementing and managing enterprise systems equipment including switches, routers, voice systems, firewalls, application optimization, load balancers, IPS/IDS, data centers and VPN for internal and external connectivity (B2B and Cloud)
  • CCNA or CCNP certifications preferred
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing a secure, enterprise connectivity strategy that supports hybrid Cloud services
  • Working technical knowledge of current network and security hardware, software, protocols and Internet standards, including: EIGRP, MPLS, DMVPN, 3DES, QoS, AES, Logging, Monitoring, detection and remediation of malware, viruses, zero-day attacks
  • Advanced understanding of maintaining business continuity and high availability for IT services
  • Experience performing complex technical analysis and performance tuning of hardware, software, networks, security, and logging within data centers, remote sites, and Cloud providers
