About this role

We’re hiring a Procurement Specialist for our petrochemical client to join their team! This is a long-term contract opportunity for 18 months where you will be actively managing a portfolio of assigned commodities and/or projects.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective interfaces between Procurement, internal customers, and vendors
  • Work with internal customers to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
  • Participate and/or lead activities of cross-functional sourcing teams to execute agreed upon procurement strategies
  • Develop and implement Procurement strategies for their assigned projects and commodities
  • Develop and apply innovative solutions to meet supply requirements
  • Develop supplier selection criteria and qualify suppliers against them using established processes, including third-party contractor qualification process where appropriate
  • Manage assigned commodities and respective supplier relationships, including performance measures, processes, and results
  • Initiate and participate in interactions with suppliers and end users to build and enhance relationships.
  • Lead strategic/complex negotiations
  • Facilitate execution of master agreements
  • Apply advanced purchasing and negotiating tools and processes and coach others in their use
  • Apply the non-conformance process and work with suppliers to resolve non-conformances
  • Coach and mentor team members on policies and best practices that support Procurement’s strategic direction
  • Provide back-up support to other buyers when needed

  • University graduate with 1 to 3 years related experience and continued professional development OR 5+ years post-secondary education and related experience and continued professional development
  • Professional accreditation a plus (A.P.P, C.P.M., CPSM)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Effective change management and conflict management skills
  • Strong ability to influence, mediate and persuade
  • Demonstrated negotiation and contracting experience
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high level of customer focus and service
  • Demonstrated ability to drive projects through various phases from idea generation to implementation
  • Strategic thinking, planning, and analytical skills to understand supply market dynamics, generate purchasing strategies, effectively negotiate agreements, and implement solutions to complex and multi-dimensional problems
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, creative, innovative, results-oriented
  • Experience with procuring IT solutions a plus
  • Experience with Ariba platform a plus
  • SAP experience a plus
